01
Formulation & freezing
Review ingredient compatibility, the intended dry structure, dose and freezing behaviour.
TECHNOLOGY
Freeze-drying removes water from a frozen preparation under reduced pressure. The formulation, cycle and package must be evaluated together.
PROCESS PRINCIPLES
01
Review ingredient compatibility, the intended dry structure, dose and freezing behaviour.
02
Develop primary and secondary drying conditions for the specific formulation and equipment.
03
Evaluate moisture sensitivity, package integrity, stability and the intended use method.
VALIDATION
Freeze-drying alone does not establish a product’s shelf life, preservative requirements, microbiological status or performance. Those statements require product-specific assessment and supporting data.
A project review may consider residual moisture, appearance, reconstitution behaviour where applicable, microbiological quality, packaging compatibility and stability under the intended storage conditions. The final testing scope is agreed for the actual product and market.
